What will be covered during this course?

Aimed at nature enthusiasts, students, conservationists, researchers, wildlife gardeners, biological recorders, and environmental professionals who want to develop their understanding of camera trapping and learn how to use trail cameras effectively to study and monitor UK wildlife.

  • Select and assess suitable deployment sites by identifying key habitat features, wildlife signs (e.g. tracks and trails), and practical considerations that influence camera trap success.

  • Correctly position, mount, and configure a camera trap in the field by adjusting settings such as trigger sensitivity, delay intervals, and image or video mode to optimise data quality for different monitoring goals.

  • Apply best practice principles to ensure reliable and secure data collection, including minimising false triggers, reducing theft and weather-related risks, and registering sites with MammalWeb to contribute to national biodiversity monitoring.
